Visiting Omaha for the College World Series is a summer tradition for many baseball fans—but the action doesn’t stop at the stadium gates. Whether you’re in town for the games, exploring the city with your family, or looking for budget-friendly fun, Omaha offers plenty of free experiences that help you make the most of your stay.

From riverfront strolls and public art to candy shops and splash pads, we caught up with Hurrdat ONE’s Grace Dunbar and Kristyna Engdahl to feature some of the best free things to do in Omaha.

Catch the Energy at Fan Fest by Capital One

📍 Lot C, just outside Charles Schwab Field

If you’re looking for the ultimate College World Series companion event, Fan Fest by Capital One is a can’t-miss. This free, all-ages experience includes interactive games, vendor booths, food trucks, live music, and the ever-popular CWS trophy photo op.

“It’s perfect when your team isn’t playing but you want to stay close to the action.” – Grace Dunbar

Open June 12–23 (except June 20), Fan Fest offers a high-energy environment right outside the stadium—just don’t forget to bring your refillable water bottle!

Stroll the Omaha Baseball Village

📍 Adjacent to Fan Fest near The Matt

Located just steps from the stadium, Omaha Baseball Village is another lively, free spot filled with vendors, live music, giveaways, and unique College World Series merchandise. It’s a great place to browse, people-watch, and soak in the baseball atmosphere between innings.

Rediscover Nostalgia at Hollywood Candy

📍 1209 Jackson St, Omaha, NE 68102

Hollywood Candy, in the heart of the Old Market, is part retro museum, part candy wonderland. With over 8,000 square feet of vintage toys, pop culture memorabilia, and quirky finds, it’s one of the best free places in Omaha to explore—no purchase required.

“You can browse for hours without spending a dime,” – Kristyna Engdahl

Check out their themed mystery boxes, classic movie theater, and even celebrity memorabilia (hello, Lady Gaga’s piano!).

Explore Omaha’s Riverfront Parks

📍 Downtown Omaha – Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park, & Lewis and Clark Landing

If you’re wondering what to do in Omaha for free, the newly renovated Riverfront is your answer. This 72-acre oasis is split into three interconnected parks:

Gene Leahy Mall

The Gene Leahy Mall allows you to enjoy live music, outdoor yoga, splash pads, hammocks, and skyline photo ops—all completely free.

“It’s like Omaha’s Central Park. Perfect for relaxing, reading, or just people-watching.” – Grace Dunbar

Heartland of America Park

With walking trails, a free skate ribbon (you can bring your own skates or rent on site), bocce courts, food trucks, and an amphitheater, Heartland of America Park is a vibrant spot for families and active visitors alike.

Lewis & Clark Landing

Lewis & Clark Landing is home to sand volleyball courts, one of the city’s best playgrounds, and unbeatable river views—including the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, where you can stand in both Nebraska and Iowa at the same time!

Be Inspired at Joslyn Art Museum

📍 2200 Dodge St, Omaha, NE 68102

The newly reopened Joslyn Art Museum is Omaha’s premier fine arts destination, and admission is always free. Stroll through galleries filled with global masterpieces, take part in hands-on art workshops, or join one of their public tours. You can experience thousands of years of human history through art and sculpture here.

Check their calendar for events like Mini Makers, teen painting nights, and printmaking workshops during CWS week.

Experience the Historic Old Market

📍 Downtown Omaha

Still wondering what to do in Omaha when you’re not at a CWS game? Take a walk through the Old Market, Omaha’s most charming historic district. With its cobblestone streets, art galleries, unique storefronts, bookstores, and welcoming public spaces, it’s the perfect place to window shop, grab a drink, or just wander.

Watch a Free Outdoor Movie at Heartwood Preserve

📍 Near Boys Town in West Omaha

Head west to Heartwood Preserve, a growing public space featuring free summer events like movies under the stars, live performances, and open green spaces for walking, biking, and relaxing.

With 80 acres of parks and trails under development, it’s a great option for families, dog-walkers, and anyone needing a breather from all the action.

Plan Your Cost-Free Adventure in Omaha

From baseball-themed fun to immersive public spaces, Omaha offers some of the best free activities in the Midwest—especially during the College World Series. Whether you’re downtown with friends or exploring with family, these experiences prove you don’t have to spend a lot to have a great time.
