What Is The Bend?

The Bend is an Omaha-based creative collective, led by Bria G, that brings together visual artists, musicians, vendors and creatives under one roof for curated showcase events. It doesn’t center any single art form or genre. Instead, it functions as a platform – one that gives multiple creative voices space to coexist, connect and build off each other’s energy.

The collective operates with a deliberate focus on Omaha’s local talent, treating each event less like a performance and more like a community gathering with work to show.

How The Bend Listens to Its Community

The Bend’s programming philosophy has a surprisingly practical origin. After early events, the collective distributed feedback forms to attendees and artists. The response was consistent: people felt too spread out. The physical spacing of events was creating distance where connection was supposed to happen.

“One thing about The Bend is that we listen,” says Bria. “We gave out feedback forms and one of the biggest things we heard was we didn’t want to be so far apart. We didn’t want to be so spaced out.”

That feedback directly influenced the collective’s venue strategy. Rather than defaulting to larger spaces, The Bend began prioritizing intimate settings – rooms where energy could build and conversations could happen naturally. The goal, as the collective described it, is for “the energy to pulse” and for “meaningful connections to thrive.”

In the Bend’s most recent collaboration, they hosted an event at The Dreamland Lounge, a new jazz & blues bar in Omaha, in response to this feedback.

Why Multi-Genre Events Matter for Omaha Artists

One of The Bend’s most intentional choices is to centralize different creatives instead of focusing on a specific genre. A typical showcase might bring together a visual artists, musicians, and vendors in the same room – not as a novelty, but as a philosophy.

Featured artists have echoed that view. “I love the idea of getting multiple genres together and just creating an atmosphere of creative energy within one room,” says artist Soli. “Just having a community – a collective creative community.”

For Omaha artists specifically, the collective adds to growing desire in this community – a recurring, intentional space where emerging and established creatives can share audiences, exchange ideas and grow their networks without having to compete for the same room.

What’s Next for The Bend in Omaha

The Bend continues to develop its presence in Omaha through venue partnerships and recurring showcases. Its recent collaboration with Dreamland Lounge, a new jazz and blues bar at 3927 Ames Avenue, reflects the kind of partnerships the collective is building, spaces that match its philosophy of intimacy and community over scale.

As Omaha’s arts scene continues to grow across neighborhoods, The Bend represents a model worth watching: community-led, feedback-informed and committed to keeping local creative energy in the same room.
